The PEMA On the Royal Command of Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen, the Pema Center Secretariat, an agency to spearhead our national response for mental health, has been established.

Her Majesty graced the inauguration ceremony of the Secretariat on 16 June, where prayers were performed for an auspicious start to the initiative.

The Secretariat aims to help build a society that promotes the mental health and well-being of all Bhutanese.

It will support policies and develop programs to support mental health, foster multi-sectoral partnerships, engage communities, and establish a proactive service delivery network. It will also help introduce and improve treatments, therapy and rehabilitation services.

The Secretariat has three core divisions, for Self-harm Prevention, Violence Prevention and Response, and Substance Use Prevention and Care. Their collective mandate is to make proactive and reliable mental health services accessible for all. The team’s first steps towards this include setting up channels through which those in need of services can seek help, and systems to support them as well as their families and caregivers

Australia Tightens the VISA Conditions

Australia's Home Affairs Minister, Clare O'Neil, has unveiled comprehensive reforms aimed at reshaping the country's migration system, addressing perceived issues. The government plans to implement stringent visa rules over the next two years to reduce immigration, focusing on both international students and skilled workers.

For Australia Student Visa, the new policies mandate higher English proficiency scores, requiring Graduate visa applicants to achieve 6.5 (up from 6.0) and student visa applicants to attain 6.0 (up from 5.5). The changes also involve increased scrutiny on second visa applications.

In the realm of Australia Work Visa, the government intends to introduce the "Skills in Demand Visa," replacing the existing temporary skill shortage visa. This four-year visa offers three pathways based on skill levels, catering to specialists, core skills, and essential skills, with associated income criteria. The government anticipates a positive fiscal impact, projecting an addition of $3.4 billion to the budget over the next decade through these new pathways.

Hike to Chhumphu Ney: Paro

The journey to Chumphu Ney was a memorable experience for me and my family. The hike, lasting 4 to 8 hours, unfolded through serene forests, offering shade and a cool breeze that made the walk enjoyable.

Reaching the temple, we were captivated by the presence of Dorji Phamo, the "floating" goddess. The medium to steep climb added an element of adventure, and witnessing a money note smoothly pass beneath her feet left us in awe of the sacred atmosphere.

Exploring the Guru Rimpoche Caves felt like stepping back in time, imagining the meditation practices of Guru and his consorts. The waterfalls, believed to be Guru's bathing place, and the rock opening considered the gates of Heaven, added a sense of wonder to our visit.

Inside the temple, the caretaker shared fascinating details about the floating statue, emphasizing its mysterious origins and the belief that wishes made beside greed come true. The prohibition of photography inside the temple heightened the sense of reverence.

Venturing beyond the temple, we discovered the caves used by Guru Rinpoche and his consorts, each resonating with spiritual history. The small lake, carved into the rocks with a beautiful waterfall, and the rock opening believed to be Heaven's gateway provided moments of tranquility and reflection.

Sharing this experience with my family was truly special. Recommending this hike to others is not just about the physical journey; it's an invitation to immerse yourself in the spiritual and serene ambiance of Chumphu Ney, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those who embark on this adventure.

Trigonometry in real life: The height of the flagpole

In a quest to bridge theory with reality, I guided my students through an application of trigonometry: measuring the height of a flagpole. We calculated the  height of the flagpole using the angle of elevation and baseline distance.

Formula:

Height of flagpole = baseline distance * tan(ฮธ)

 Viva-Voce: Introduction

My name is Nidup Jamtsho. I graduated from Samtse College of Education in June this year, with a Bachelor of Education in Physics and Mathematics. I am from Drepong under Mongar Dzongkhag. I completed my high school in the science stream from Yadi Higher Secondary School in 2017. Throughout my educational journey, I have been academically sound and obtained many academic excellence awards including the precious certificate from his majesty the king. Among special awards, I was awarded the Best Student of the year at my primary and high school. In college, I was awarded both prestigious awards; President’s Award for Outstanding Student Leadership and the Award for Valuable Contribution. During my teaching practice, I was awarded the Principal’s Certificate of Commendation signed by the Dzongdag, which was the first of its kind.

I have held various leadership positions from my primary school to college. Out of all the leadership roles, I happened to be the school captain in both primary and high school. I was also the councillor at the college. I was the overall commander during the 48th batch De-Suungtraining at Wing VIII, SamtseWhile serving in the capacity of those roles, I have had the privilege of learning many things like communication skills, patience, empathy, accountability, and many other life skills.

I participated in various co-curricular activities in my school and college. Among those activities, I would not miss the events related to social services. I was an active scout member who got an opportunity to undergo scout leadership training in 2015. Through the membership of the Tarayana club, GNH program, and SDG program, I used to involve myself with social services. I am the founder of an unofficial youth group called KuenphenYouth which was formed with the goal to render social services.

In addition to all those things, I consider myself a passionate content creator and a blogger. With all these qualities and my willingness to constantly reinvent myself, I strongly believe that I can become one of the best teachers in the country to groom the children through a right way and eventually lead to a better nation building.
